Radon School Preconstruction The same soil conditions that create radon problems in residential homes create problems in schools. Personnel at Clean Vapor have been designing and installing radon mitigation systems at schools and large buildings since 1988. Since that time personnel at Clean Vapor have participated in work on over forty schools. Much of our initial work was retrofitting existing buildings. In 1995 the Radon Hazard Sub-Code required that all new schools constructed in Tier One areas include passive radon piping for future activation. (Close Map) All schools constructed under the administration of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority must have radon piping installed independent of the Tier designation. We specialize in the design and the physical installation of radon systems in schools. Many Architectural Firms do not have personnel who are licensed in Radon Mitigation or have an understanding of the mechanics of venting radon and soil gasses from beneath buildings. As a result of this, the foot print of the building is simply populated with the minimum number of radon collection points. Often this is done without regard to location, sub slab obstructions, such as thickened slabs or weather the system could actually function in the event that it would need to be activated.
